Electrical Muscle Stimulation
Electrical muscle stimulation (E-Stim) is a therapy in which mild electric currents are delivered into the problem area. Doing this increases blood flow to promote healing, stimulates endorphin release to decrease pain, and decreases muscle spasms and inflammation.
Who needs E-Stim?
If you are dealing with high levels of pain, inflammation, or muscle tension, E-stim may be indicated for you. E-stim is most often performed before chiropractic adjustments and may also be done in conjunction with decompression therapy. These services are performed before adjustments to relieve tight muscles and reduce inflammation so that your body is more relaxed before your adjustments. Chiropractic adjustments are designed to restore motion to the joints in your body, but if your muscles are tense and inflamed it can be more difficult to achieve the desired results. So in addition to speeding up the healing process, E-stim can help make the other part of your treatment more effective.
